Paige, on the other hand, dove in head first. That poor cupcake didn't have a chance once she got hold of it.

And then of course the sugar rush set in!

So we stripped them down, rinsed them off, and let them unwrap their gifts before bathtime. Molly was more than happy to teach them how to unwrap gifts.

There were some definite favorites out of the presents. Garrett LOVED his giant Tonka dump truck. I've never seen him so thrilled with a toy in my life, and if Paige tried to play with it he got quite upset. He spent half an hour putting balled up pieces of wrapping paper in it, dumping them out, and doing it all over again. It didn't take him long to figure it out!

And Paige's favorite was her big rubber ball. She walked around all night carrying it and showing it to everyone.

At their pediatrician's visit, we also got their new measurements. Surprisingly, since his 9-month appointment Garrett has gained 2 inches in height (now 32 1/4" tall - 98th percentile) but only 6 oz in weight (now 26 lb 7 oz - 91st percentile). So he's definitely leaning out. Paige also only gained 6 oz in weight (now 25 lb 12 oz - 97th percentile) but is only an inch taller (30 1/2" tall - 90th percentile). Garrett is already two inches taller than his sister and is definitely destined to be a big boy.
So despite the croup, it was still a great day. Happy Birthday Garrett and Paige!

Happy Birthday Garrett and Paige! And congratulations Amy and Steve for making it through the first year! Hooray! That's funny about the different styles of cupcake eating. Nicolas and Riley were like that, too, on their first birthday. Nicolas ate his cake very carefully and made almost no mess. Riley tore into his cake and made an enormous mess. To this day, Riley is our messy eater and Nicolas barely needs his hands or mouth wiped when he finishes a meal! Gotta love those twin differences. (: Glad the day was so fun, despite the sickness.
Looks like they both had a great Birthday! We hope they start feeling better soon! What a wonderful year it has been watching them develop into their own little person. You BOTH did a great job despite all the sleepless nights and crazy days! They are 2 very happy and healthy toddlers to show for it! Molly was such a trooper and a big help, they are lucky to have such a wonderful big sister! We miss seeing you all so much but we are thankful to see all the pictures and great videos! Love you all!
