One of the highlights of our summer vacations in British Columbia is always the trips to the beach. One of Steve's favorite beaches is at Esquimalt Lagoon, which is really close to my sister Michelle's house. The kids always spend a good chunk of time searching for "treasures", which includes shells, shiny rocks and critters (both dead and alive).

Steve always takes the kids on a crab hunt in the water. The water was FREEZING but that didn't phase Paige at all. Garrett on the other hand preferred hitching a ride.
Garrett also found a new food group at the beach... seaweed! Hopefully it was an edible variety!
The kids all enjoyed playing in the sand... but particularly Molly. She made several sandcastles and buried herself up to her waist. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of her being buried, because I was busy dethawing Paige from her romp in the water!
The kids had a blast playing with their cousin Maya as well. Alex and Maya were on the west coast for a visit. Trish and Dave were spending three weeks in the Mediterranean, and through a unexpected turn of events their child care plan fell through during the last week, so my parents flew them to the West Coast. What perfect timing for us to spend time with them! This particular morning at the beach, Alex was still sleeping off his jet lag.

And of course Maya was more than willing to pose for a couple of pictures before we packed up and left for the day!
