Road Trip 2011: Part 1

Well, although our vacation is not yet over, it seems prudent to start the blog of our road trip. Otherwise I may find myself in photo overload when we get home! We left last Wednesday night at 3:00 in the morning. Yes... that is crazy early. But the kids pretty much slept until the California/Oregon stateline, which we reached by 7:00 a.m. Kids just travel so much better comatose! We stayed Thursday night in Portland with Steve's sister's family. Then it was off the next morning for the 2:00 p.m. Anacortes Ferry, which leaves just north of Seattle. The kids were SO happy to get out of the van when we arrived at the ferry terminal.

We arrived at my parents house with just enough time to eat a quick dinner and put the kids to bed. The next day we decided to take it as easy as possible to allow the kids to recover from the road trip. We enjoyed a lazy morning, and then took the kids to the cove near their house.

They had SO MUCH FUN exploring the tide pools for creatures and treasures. The highlight was the myriad of starfish that were found.

And of course, plenty of fun was had hanging out with their Nani and Papa! It was so wonderful to see my kids enjoy Mom and Dad!

After naps, we took a quick dip in the pool at Mom and Dad's community before dinner. It was such a relaxing day and the perfect way to recover from a exhausting road trip.
