Mommy's Post: Try, try again...

Well, some of you know (and some of you don't) that two weeks ago the Clomid actually ended up working and I ovulated. Good news. Unfortunately... this morning my cycle started. Bad news. So it didn't take. I think I'm just happy to know and be able to prepare mentally for trying another month. The waiting over the last 2 weeks has been the worst part. I'm not a good "waiter". I have a bit of the "I want it now" mentality. That could explain the FIVE pregnancy tests I burned through over the last week. Sigh... Anyway, I have recently dug out some statistics which are quite interesting:

- About 20-25% of women in their early thirties (that's me) have fertility problems. In your early 20's, only 1-2% of women have problems. And age 35 is when the fertility curve starts to plummet...

- IF they can get you to ovulate on Clomid, there's still only a 4% chance that you'll get pregnant that month. That statistic only goes up to a whopping 8% if you pair it with an AI treatment.

- Of those patients who successfully ovulate as a result of taking Clomid, around half of those will NOT be able to concieve within 3-6 months.

- If Clomid and AI doesn't work within 3 months, then you move on to taking hormone injections. The success rate for injections and AI is 18% each month.

- For women under 35, the success rate for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) is 50%. For women ages 35-37 it is 36%. For women 38-40 it's 25%.

- Average cost for AI ~ $300 a month. Average cost for IVF ~ $8000-14000 per month.

Thankfully, I know that God is much bigger than a pile of statistics. Can you imagine paying $8-14K for a treatment that only has a 50% chance of working? Pray we don't get to that point. We appreciate everyone's prayers so far!

Have you ever considered Acupuncture Amy? I have a friend who tried to get pregnant for over 14 years. It sounds like she has some of the same reproductive issues you have. She tried everything except IVF, they couldn't afford it. she was told by a friend to try accupuncture. She went in with MAJOR doubts about it. She asked the accupuncturist when does this stuff usually work (because it is also kind of expensive, although some insurances cover it) the accupuncturist said give me 3 months. She found out she was pregnant 3 months to the day of starting. Baby Ellie is 2 months old now!! Just thought I would share that with you. I have also had accupuncture for the back issue I had that was keeping me in bed for weeks at a time. I had three procedures done and I have never had a back issue since. I swear by the stuff!! and it totally does not hurt
