Cooper Mountain Photo Shoot

In preparation for the new school year, I decided that I wanted to get some updated photos of my kiddos.  Steve was super sweet and offered to help, so off we went to Cooper Mountain Nature Park.  The kids were perfectly behaved and I love how they turned out.  Man we have some cute kids!

It was looking like it was going to be a beautiful sunset, so I made everyone wait around until the sun had dropped.  I'm sure glad we waited!

Camping at Silver Falls

We did manage to fit in one camping trip during our busy summer.  We headed to Silver Falls with the Savage clan for three nights.  Between the two vans we were able to fit all the camping gear AND bikes for all nine of us AND a bike trailer for Hawk.  Yes... we even fit Hawk in our van.  The first job when we arrived was setting up camp.

Then of course we needed to make dinner.  I have to give props to Christie because she has tailgate camping down perfectly, including every kitchen utensil you could need and even twinkle light around the picnic table!

The next morning after making a big pancake breakfast for everyone, we decided to hike to the different waterfalls that Silver Falls was famous for.  The trek to the first falls was only about a half mile... and man was it worth it.  It was SO beautiful and you actually get to hike behind the falls.

The next leg of the trek was about 7-miles and Steve and I decided that the twins were still too little (and too whiny) to hike it.  So he took them back to the campsite and I trekked on with Molly and the Savages.  I believe we saw about six more waterfalls and went up and down some steep trails.  We even went to the waterfall where Scott proposed to Christie!  The kids were exhausted by the time we got back to the car and we really had to push them the last mile... but they DID it!

That afternoon we went to the river swimming hole to cool down.  The water was nice and cool during the heat of the afternoon.  For a dog that seems to love water, we discovered that Hawk was not a swimmer.  He preferred to just wade up to his knees.

One of the kids' favorite activities was our evening bike ride.  The bike trails around the campground were fabulous and pretty flat.  And Scott was able to hook up the Weehoo AND the bike trailer to his bike and could have up to three kids in tow behind him.  Riding in the bike trailer was another "first" for Hawk and he seemed to enjoy the ride.

Our second day there, we went for a hike up to the last falls we hadn't yet seen.  It was a much shorter hike and all the kids were able to do it.  It sure was beautiful!

If you ask the kids what their favorite part of camping is, they would tell you it's the smores.  And let me tell you... the Savages have smores down to a creative science.  We tried smores made with graham crackers, a marshmallow and lemon curd that tasted just like lemon meringue pie!  We did smores with peanut butter cups, Oreos, shortbread cookies, Kit Kats... you name it.  They also had the kids roasting Starburst over the fire... think about a crunchy shell with a gooey center.  It's was a Sugar Fest.

And of course there were campsite crafts, including pinecone people and bracelet braiding.

It was such a fun camping trip.  It so easy to camp with the Savages too because all the kids get along fabulously and between the two vans we can bring a TON of stuff.  We can't wait to do it all again next summer!

Acadia Beach

Today Christie and I took the kiddos on a little trek to the beach.  The coast is only an hour and a half away, so it's a doable day trip and we are able to fit all seven of us in a one van.  Acadia Beach was a new beach for both of us, and it's fairly close to Cannon Beach (about a mile away).  There was hardly anyone else there and it was sheltered from the wind on a relatively windy day.  We couldn't have asked for better weather.  The kids had a blast together and we stopped in Cannon Beach for ice cream before heading home.  I forgot my camera but thankfully Christie got some pictures of our fabulous day!
