Christmas Celebrations!

Christmas this year was wonderful.  I have to admit that it was one of the best yet.  First of all, we were all healthy which is a Christmas miracle in itself.  Second of all, all of our kids were totally sucked in to the magic of the season, and it made it so special!  Here's the annual Christmas jammies photos.  Even the dog cooperated... another Christmas miracle!

Three days before Christmas my parents arrived... yet another reason for fabulous memories.  The kids made a gingerbread house with my mom, and I am amazed that they were all able to cooperate and build one single house together as a team.  Another Christmas miracle! Molly decorated the front, Garrett did the back, and Paige did the roof!

We also took my parents to see the Christmas light display at the Portland Speedway.  It's a neat thing to do when it's cold out, because you get to drive on the race track to travel to each display.  The kids loved the "12 Days of Christmas" displays, and we sang the entire song while we were driving.

Hawk particularly enjoyed my parents visit and absolutely fell in love with my dad.  He followed him around all day and would lay at his feet and lick his toes in adoration.

Christmas Eve we got ready for church and went to the afternoon service.  The kids looked adorable in their coordinating outfits so of course it was a photo opp!  The service was amazing with some great reminders of why we celebrate Christmas.

For dinner we had tamales... which was a first for my parents.  I'm proud of them for trying something so outside of their comfort zone.  Then the kids got in their jammies, sprinkled the reindeer food on the front lawn, and we read some Christmas stories before they went to bed.  The adults stayed up and watched Elf before calling it a night.

Christmas morning was a huge success.  The kids were SO joyful and had a blast giving each other the gifts that they had bought one another.  Molly got her lava lamp from Santa and a camera from us!  Paige got a robot dog (Zoomer) from Santa and art supplies from us.  And Garrett got a Minecraft play set from Santa and some balls (soccer and football) and a Seahawks hat from us.  But I think their favorite gift was the Kindle tablets that each child got from Nani and Papa!

Hawk also got a stocking from Santa complete with treats, toys and a new Nylabone!  What a spoiled puppy!

The kids spent the afternoon enjoying their toys, and Garrett and Steve played his new Lego Starwars Wii game.

Meanwhile my mom and I got ready for the evening's company.  We had most of the food prepped and ready to cook when everyone arrived!

The cousins exchanged gifts.  It was so much fun seeing Hailey and Luke open up their presents!

And then before dinner we had a little carol sing-a-long.  Almost every year while I was growing up we would break out the instruments and have a carol sing-a-long. I'm looking forward to continuing that tradition with my own family!

We had an amazing prime rib dinner and everyone left overly full with food and love.  The perfect end to the perfect Christmas!

Winter Assembly

The last day of school before Winter Break, the kids' school had a "Winter Assembly".  I volunteer in Molly's classroom on Fridays, so I got to be there for it.  It was so wonderful!  The music teacher did a fabulous job of a school wide carol sing-a-long!  It was truly heart warming!

And here's Molly and some of her table mates!  Such a great group of kids!

Molly's Piano Recital

About six weeks into her piano lessons, Molly had her very first piano recital.  I was so proud of how hard she worked.  The whole way there she talked non-stop... obviously full of nerves.  She played two songs, including "Ode to Joy" as a duet with ME!  Getting to play a piano duet with my little girl was one of those parenting highlights!  We were doubly blessed because her cousins and best friend came to watch!

Here's her piano teacher, Mrs. Ball, with all of her students.  I am so thankful to have found such a kind, loving, and competent piano teacher as her!

"All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth"

Yesterday Paige lost her first teeth!  Her bottom two teeth had been starting to get a little wiggly.  But last night during baths, Molly took those teeth by force.  Paige had been playing a funnel like a little horn, and apparently it was annoying Molly.  She reached over and batted the funnel out of Paige's mouth, taking her bottom teeth with it.  All this was happening as I was getting ready to leave for a client meeting.  All of a sudden I heard Paige scream in pain, and Molly scream "Oh no!  There's so much blood!".  Apparently when teeth get knocked out before they're quite ready they bleed... a lot!  I got Paige calmed down and Molly removed from the scene, and was only ten minutes late for my meeting.  Phew.  Needless to say, Paige got TWO little stuffed animals for her first lost teeth from a sympathetic tooth fairy.  These photos were taken a few weeks later when her new teeth were already starting to come up.

The best part is that she was missing her two front teeth just in time for Christmas, so she could sing this song...

What a fabulous Thanksgiving!  The Savage clan kindly hosted this year.  It's always fun getting together with them because us adults enjoy eachother's company, and the kids play so well together.

Christie has some crazy awesome cooking skills and brined the organic free-range bird for a couple days in a honey bourbon mixture.  They they smoked the bird on the Traeger all day.  I have to say that it was the BEST tasting turkey I've ever had.  The food was amazing and I fell in love with the butter that was shaped like a turkey.

We brought along a Canadian tradition and got Christmas crackers for all the kiddos.   We all ate too much food and enjoyed one another's company.

Molly and Hailey got to do the wish bone and Molly won this year.  It was a flashback to our very first Thanksgiving with the girls down at Grandma Shirley's house eight years ago!  I think there's a photo of them as babies with the wishbone!

We have so much to be thankful for, but this year we appreciate the gift of living near the Savage clan.  What a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Learning Letter Sounds

There's nothing much cuter than Paige singing her kindergarten letter sounds song.

Halloween 2015

What a fabulous Halloween we had!  There was so much excitement leading up to it... including our annual pumpkin carving.  The kids were allowed to do it all on their own.  Paige pretty much did the entire thing herself.  Molly was into the designing and carving... but had someone else clean her pumpkin out.  Garrett cleaned his entire pumpkin out himself, but wanted help with the design and carving.

Here's the finished masterpieces.

We even got Hawk into the festive spirit.  He didn't mind the Halloween bandana, but was way less excited about the Chewbacca costume.  He has now been dubbed "Chewhawka the Woofie".

The kids each picked out their own costumed and I completely relinquished control (which is always hard for me).  Molly was Elsa from Frozen to match with her BFF who was dressing up as Anna from Frozen.

Paige was a pop star. We saw her costume at Costco and she was immediately sucked in by leopard print, hot pink and sparkly sequins.

Garrett was Obi-Wan Kenobi.  It was a perfect match to Hawk's costume and I was amazed that I actually got a photo of the two of them together!

And here's the three of them... completely in character!

That evening we went to our neighbor's home for a party before we headed out for trick-or-treating.  We enjoyed some awesome Halloween food, and I even got my costume out of the closet for the occasion.

Then we headed out with the herd of children to go get candy.  The kids did great, although the little ones faded pretty fast.  Molly and her friend's little sister were a matching pair of Elsa's and Molly took her under her wing the entire evening.  It was pretty adorable!

All in all... it was a fabulous day!  So much fun!

Pumpkin Patch

The Saturday before Halloween Garrett had a soccer game.  But after his game, we decided to go get our Halloween pumpkins.  Thankfully, Christie told us that the local plant nursery was having a sale... $0.99 for a pumpkin of ANY size.  So off we went to Al's Garden Center.  The "pumpkin plan" ballooned as we got excited about the the cheap pumpkins and by the time we had left we had bought THIRTEEN of them.  Oh well... it made for a pretty display on our front doorstep!

But the kids felt like they didn't get the full "pumpkin patch experience" so we stopped at Baggensto's Pumpkin Patch on the way home.  The kids got their tractor ride, hay maze, and farm animal experience.

School Fun Run

Today was the elementary school fun run.  This is one of the biggest school fundraisers of the year, and the kids have so much fun seeing how many laps they can run.  They separate out the runners by grade, so the first group off was the kindergarteners.  First off... the warm up!

Then it was time to get running, making sure that they stop and get a mark for every lap!

Interestingly enough, Garrett and Paige ran the same pace and each did seven laps.

Then of course it was time for a team photo.

And then celebrating with otter pops and friends!

And then it was time to do it all over again with the third graders!

Last Warm Days of the Season

The kids are enjoying some of the last warm days of the season.  We are so thankful for the great weather!

The Dragon Cheetahs

This fall Garrett played soccer for the first time.  The kids on his team were all kindergartners, and were absolutely adorable.  At the first practice they chatted about what to name the team.  Half the kids wanted to be "The Dragons" and half wanted to be the "Cheetahs".  So together they decided that they would be the "Dragon Cheetahs".  It was so much fun watching Garrett's skills grow over the season.  It was also abundantly clear that Garrett was the team "encourager", and you would constantly hear him saying that people were doing a good job or giving them high-fives.  During one game my Mom was in town and was able to watch it with me.  He scored THREE goals during the game and Mom and I were hoarse from screaming by the end.  His final goal tally by the end of of the season was five points.  We are super proud of what a great job he did!

A new school year

Well... it is a new year at school for the kiddos.  This particular year was really special because it was the year that Garrett and Paige start Kindergarten!  It's hard to believe that they are already old enough!  We decided to put them in a class together, and they are in the morning class from 8:00 to 10:30 every day.  Their teacher is Mrs. Meyers and she has three young children of her own and seems to be a very kind, loving and organized person.  Molly's 3rd grade teacher is Mrs. Salbeda, and she also seems to be fabulous!

Molly started right after Labor Day and was happy that her BFF Ava was in the same class as her.  The kindergarteners started the following week, so that they could be tested and place into reading groups.

The twins were both really nervous to start kindergarten at the "big kid school".  But the fact that they had eachother helped a ton.  The stayed by one another's side most of the morning.  Both of them were happy and full of smiles at pick-up, which is a good sign!

As always I am impressed with Scholls Heights School and the level of education they are receiving.  We feel very blessed every year with the amazing teachers they get!

Cooper Mountain Photo Shoot

In preparation for the new school year, I decided that I wanted to get some updated photos of my kiddos.  Steve was super sweet and offered to help, so off we went to Cooper Mountain Nature Park.  The kids were perfectly behaved and I love how they turned out.  Man we have some cute kids!

It was looking like it was going to be a beautiful sunset, so I made everyone wait around until the sun had dropped.  I'm sure glad we waited!
